A Florida policy that previously banned the instruction of sexual orientation and "gender identity" in public schools from kindergarten through third grade, has been expanded by the Florida Board of Education to include all grades.
According to a Gateway Pundit report, the changes did not require legislative approval.
While giving comments in Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday morning, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, "It is wrong for a teacher to tell a student that they may have been born in the wrong body or that their gender is a choice."
"So we don't let that happen in Florida," DeSantis added. "Disney objects to that, well, so be it - we're going to do that," he concluded.
An ongoing dispute between Governor DeSantis and Disney has been making headlines and garnering attention in recent months as the entertainment giant has become more political in recent years and particularly vocal about its opposition to the Parental Rights in Education law. In response to the law, Disney suspended all political donations in the state and began supporting organizations that also opposed the measure.
In response to Disney's disapproval of the law, DeSantis signed a bill that ended the company's self-governing power over a massive area that surrounds its resorts and theme parks.
During remarks last month, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed the proposed expansion of the law saying, "It's wrong, it's completely, utterly wrong." She also said that it's "part of a disturbing and dangerous trend that we're seeing across the nation" that is "targeting LGBTQ people."
How did Republican state legislators vote?
How about Rep. Demi Busatta Cabrera (RINO-Coral Gables)?
As usual, DeSantis talks big but delivers weak legislation. He and his RINO supermajority legislature could only manage to ban gender insanity lessons thru grade 8; lessons in 9-12 must be "age-appropriate," whatever that is.
The Florida State Board of Education rule states that FL educators “shall not intentionally provide classroom instruction to students in grades 4-12 on sexual orientation or gender identity” UNLESS such instruction is required by state academic standards or part of a health course for which parents have the option for their child not to attend.
Hardly the big anti-woke hero he claims to be.
