Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has come under fire for his handling of the ongoing immigration crisis, which has seen millions of illegal immigrants flood into the United States. Critics argue that Mayorkas's policies have not only failed to stem the tide of illegal immigration but have actively encouraged it, putting an unsustainable strain on the country's resources.
The situation has become so dire that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has run out of funds to help Americans in need, as its resources have been diverted to support the influx of illegal immigrants. This has left many citizens wondering how their government has allowed the situation to reach this point.
At the heart of the controversy is a sonnet written by Emma Lazarus in 1883, symbolizing America's welcoming spirit towards immigrants. The poem "The New Colossus" is inscribed on a bronze plaque inside the Statue of Liberty and includes the famous lines, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

However, some have argued that Mayorkas and his supporters have twisted the poem's message to justify their open-border policies, which have led to the current crisis. A parody of the sonnet has been circulating on social media, which reflects the reality of the situation:
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your terrorists, your gangs, Your huddled masses yearning to deal drugs free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me; I lift my lamp beside the open border!"
The parody highlights the fact that the influx of illegal immigrants has included not only those seeking a better life but also criminals, drug dealers, and even terrorists. This has put an enormous strain on local communities and law enforcement agencies, struggling to cope with the influx of new arrivals.
Mayorkas has been accused of ignoring these concerns and instead focusing on promoting his open-border agenda. He has repeatedly insisted that the border is secure despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This has led to calls for his resignation and impeachment by the House of Representatives by both Republicans and Democrats, who argue that his policies have put the safety and security of the American people at risk.
The FEMA funding crisis is the latest example of how Mayorkas's policies have failed Americans. With no end to the immigration crisis in sight, it remains to be seen how long he can continue to ignore the growing chorus of voices calling for his removal.
