Doral, Florida - Broward Public Schools displayed for all to see their inability to defend their students, and keep them safe, during the Parkland shooting in 2018. Now elections for the School Board are taking place on Tuesday, August 20, with two weeks of early voting. Marine Drill Instructor Tom Vasquez is running for the county-wide District 9, and recent events show that we need him more than ever.
The Broward Public Schools have been accommodating the deceptive practices of Jessica Norton, a parent and employee. She promoted her 16-year old transgender son to play in women’s sports. Last year Monarch High School in Coconut Creek allowed her son to play on its women’s volleyball team. This participation violates Florida state law prohibiting men from playing in women’s sports. Ms. Norton admitted to knowingly violating this prohibition.
The high school administrators were reprimanded, and now the question before the School Board is whether it should terminate Ms. Norton’s employment as a school computer specialist in an adjoining high school. That decision has been delayed for at least another month.
The Human Rights Campaign, an advocacy group for homosexual interests, is assisting Ms. Norton with her legal defense. Jason Starr, litigation strategist for the Human Rights Campaign, observed: “The basic principles of due process demand notice and an opportunity to be heard. Ms. Norton has never even been told what conduct she engaged in or failed to engage in that would justify an investigation in the first place.”
Ms. Norton informed the School Board that her son had been elected freshman and sophomore class president, was selected director of philanthropy for the student body, and was a homecoming princess. When the investigation began last November, Ms. Norton’s son left his high school, and now attends school online.
Ms. Norton alleged that the ban against playing on the women’s volleyball team destroyed her son’s life. However, she did not consider the physical damage that her son could have inflicted on a woman player. Her son constituted a clear and present physical danger to the women on the same volleyball court. He was a threat to destroy the lives of women players.
In September 2022, a North Carolina woman high-school volleyball player, was injured by a man playing for the other team. The man spiked the ball into the woman’s face, causing a concussion and neck injury. She is still recovering from these injuries, and also suffers from impaired vision, partial paralysis and constant headaches. Women should be protected from such assaults by men.
The damage inflicted by men competing in women’s sports includes not only physical damage, but also damage to the principles of excellence, achievement and merit that form the basis of athletic competition. For example, last week transgender cyclists took the top three places during a women’s relay competition held in Washington state.
Recently Riley Gaines, a woman swimmer from the University of Kentucky, was defeated for a national championship by Lia Thomas, a male swimmer from the University of Pennsylvania, with the approval of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. In response, Ms. Gaines and other women athletes have sued the NCAA for violating their civil rights.
Today women are the new blacks. They have to take progressive Democrats to court in order to uphold their civil rights. It was progressive Democrats, like Woodrow Wilson and Hugo Black, who enacted and enforced segregation laws based on skin color, between the end of Reconstruction and the Civil Rights Movement, 1877-1965. Woke progressive Democrats today are denying women their civil rights to compete in their own sports, without interference from men.
The School Board will meet next Tuesday to reconsider this situation in the Broward Public Schools. The need for a Marine Drill Instructor on the School Board has never been more clear. Support the campaign of Tom Vasquez for county-wide District 9.
