PUBLIC DEMANDS REPAYMENT OF ILLEGAL LEGAL FEES:
"Rally to Repay" Set for October 24 at Supervisor of Elections Office
Following "Rally to Record" Victory, Citizens and Congressional Candidate Demand Accountability
Palm Beach County, FL - Fresh off the overwhelming success of the "Rally to Record", where citizens forced election officials to allow public recording of canvassing meetings under Florida's Sunshine Law, residents and advocates are now turning their focus to taxpayer abuse.
On Thursday, October 24, 2025, at 3:30 PM, concerned voters will reconvene at 4301 Cherry Road to demand that Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link repay public funds used for her personal legal defense in an election contest.
The event, called the "Rally to Repay," is being led by Jeff Buongiorno, the plaintiff in the lawsuit and a 2026 U.S. Congressional candidate for Palm Beach County.
"We stood together and won transparency at the Rally to Record. Now we must demand accountability. Wendy Link used taxpayer money to fight a lawsuit filed against her as a candidate - not as an official," said Buongiorno. "That's illegal. She must repay the people and resign."
WHAT THE LAW SAYS
Buongiorno's election contest, filed under 102.168, Florida Statutes, names Link in her individual capacity as a candidate in a race that is now under legal scrutiny. Despite this, Link has used public funds and county legal staff to defend herself.
Two major legal authorities prohibit this:
This formal legal opinion by the Florida Attorney General (77-87) clearly states:
"Neither county funds nor funds available in the office budget of the supervisor of elections may be expended to defend a supervisor in an election contest in her individual capacity."
"Such litigation is personal to the candidates involved the county has no interest in expending funds to defend the supervisor in such proceedings."
Markham v. State, 298 So.2d 210 (Fla. 1st DCA 1974) In this precedent-setting case, the Florida court held that public officials cannot use government resources for personal legal matters, even if they are in public office.
"The suit was a pure and simple election contest… the legal battle between the political contestants was purely personal."
Together, these authorities make clear: public money must not fund private political battles.
EVENT DETAILS
WHAT: Rally to Repay - Protest Against Use of Taxpayer Funds
WHEN: Thursday, October 24, 2025 @ 3:30 PM
WHERE: 4301 Cherry Road, West Palm Beach, FL
WHO: Citizens, voters, and fiscal accountability advocates
WHY: Demand Wendy Link repay taxpayers and resign from office
WHY IT MATTERS

  • Public records show she is using county-paid legal staff
  • This is a misuse of taxpayer money and violates Florida law
    THE MOMENTUM IS REAL
At the October 10th Rally to Record, citizens stood firm, and the Canvassing Board backed down after weeks of
suppressing public access. The result: open cameras, restored Sunshine Law rights, and a resounding win for transparency.
"We proved that when people show up, we win," said Buongiorno. "Now we'll prove that when officials break the law, they pay it back."
