In mid-January, a Hialeah teen, Derek Rosa, pleaded guilty to stabbing his mother to death at age 13, in 2023, reported CBS news in Miami.
The teen was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Reporter Ivan Taylor said, "Besides the 25 years that he'll have to spend in prison... [he] will also face 20 years of probation."
"He is accused of stabbing her 46 times with a kitchen knife as she slept," added Taylor. "[This was] while his two-week old sister was nearby in her crib."
His step-father made a statement in the courtroom, and there was a scuffle between two women outside the courtroom.
