Art Basel Miami Beach returns for its 24th edition in December, featuring 272 leading galleries from around the world. The first look at the exhibitors will be reserved for VIP guests on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3. Art Basel Miami Beach will be open to the public on Sunday, December 4 and Monday, December 5.
The Floor Plan: The single floor of the Miami Beach Convention Center makes Art Basel/Miami Beach unique within the network of Art Basel locations. For Art Basel/Miami Beach it is easier to grant special requests with regard to spatial needs of exhibitors than at any other location. “If somebody needs a certain number of square meters we try to grant him that,” says Fair Director Marcia Todd. The new Floor Plan is “a little more varied” than its predecessor, Art News reports.
Midsize galleries will profit from being located between these big players. “Some of the bigger galleries will stay in the same location as before. We have a relationship with them and we want to support them in their location,” says Finn. The new floor plan is therefore part of the support structure for the core Galleries sector of Art Basel. “And we also want to give room to younger dealers to show their work”.
Institutions show fair organizers large and valuable projects and therefore are of extreme value to Art Basel/Miami Beach. On average the booths of Art Basel/Miami Beach are much bigger than those of the other locations of Art Basel (Basel, Hong Kong, Paris, Doha). This is the main reason for Art Basel/Miami Beach not having a Meridians section, while all the other locations of Art Basel have a separate sector for these huge and very valuable institutional projects.
Large Blue-Chip galleries have been relocated to the back of the fair. The floor plan for the 2024 edition of Frieze London has been reorganized to allow the biggest blue-chip names to be situated at the back of the tent, with collectors able to first experience the innovative, creative and non-flagship spaces of emerging and midsize galleries. The new floor plan reflects the realities of the art world commercial scene and supports the Fair’s core objective of enabling these creative and innovative dealers to compete in this fast changing environment.
