At the ribbon cutting ceremony of the 2025 Miami Boat Show, the Governor of Florida announced a legislative proposal that protects Floridians’ right to boat.

How lovely. Would that he were that invested in Floridians’ right to VOTE. When it comes to that topic, he seems to hide, or try to take credit for the Trump victory in his state - which everyone knows was NOT his to claim.

As we heard at the Feb. 4 Senate hearings on elections, the Senate Elections Committee was very dismissive of citizens who came to speak with their representatives concerning, about other things, the issue of hundreds of thousands of “new voters” which showed up in packs of registrations, on certain days in certain counties - AFTER the Nov. 5 election

“The Boater Freedom Initiative,”DeGov announced, “ensures we follow suit as the Free State of Florida on our waters with protections for boaters from unwarranted searches or heavy-handed local governments.

Think “Harassment Bill”, a form of which is very likely to be formulated in the Florida Senate this month, wherein citizens would NOT HAVE EVEN THE RIGHT TO QUESTION ELECTION WORKERS without risking being jailed for harassment - at the word of the complainant only. THAT is what I would call heavy-handed government.

There’s more. Try to hold down your breakfast. As part of the initiative, DeSantis announced the proposal will prevent local governments from banning the sale or use of boats based on fuel sources. AND. “the bill will invest in additional boat ramps, parking and marina programs through FWC, which will ensure "public access to Florida's waterways — from Biscayne Bay and the Gulf of America to the Atlantic Coast."

Oh, just gag me.

What about local governments (the RINO side of them at least) banning duly elected Commissioners from their duties to vote as their constituents want?

Then, the kicker…the bill will spend more money on boat ramps, et. al.

Florida has not taken the initiative to security check voting machines for over 20 years, nor to improve voting procedures and abandon machine voting for safer. hand-marked paper ballots on watermarked paper. Alan Hayes whines openly about needing more polling places. Shoot… that stuff all costs money.

I understand that boating is a wonderful way to spend time. My childhood was spent boating with my mom and dad on the Ohio River, not too far from where JD Vance grew up; it was universally pleasing for all ages. I am not saying there is not a problem with boating restrictions/laws in Florida.

My point is this. Our right to vote in free, fair and HONEST elections is what underlies all else we do. Phantom voters on rolls, appearing when and as they did, insecure voting machines and state officials who want to arrest people for disagreeing with an act or procedure is far more important than anything else Tallahassee could address.

Would that Florida’s Republican Party under Ron DeSantis would address this. Instead, DeSmallman jumped up to another podium so he could use the words, “Gulf of America” and sound like he is a big Trump guy., as is most of the rest of his state. Excuse me, Sir, but, if you supported all that Donald Trump is doing, and want our nation to be free again, you AND YOUR RPOF would be hard at work protecting free and fair elections in your state.
