In Florida, we have built a model of leadership grounded in fiscal discipline, meaningful partnerships, and real results. Nowhere is that more evident than right here in my district.

During this session, I had the privilege to sponsor and work on some of the most meaningful legislation impacting my district and Florida statewide, from protecting our waterways and coastlines, strengthening emergency medical services, securing infrastructure funding, advancing affordable housing, and modernizing property tax transparency to protecting endangered species, preserving historic structures, and ensuring safer waterways.
I have worked to deliver real results for Floridians across multiple fronts. These efforts reflect a simple reality: we cannot afford to focus on one issue while ignoring others. Floridians deserve leadership that protects their homes, supports their families, strengthens their communities, and improves and preserves their quality of life for future generations.
While these represent some of the key bills I sponsored and worked on during this past legislative session in Tallahassee, they are far from reflecting the complete list. More work has been accomplished, and there is much more to do as we continue advancing meaningful policies that strengthen Florida for everyone who calls it home.
In the most recent legislative session, the Florida House passed one of the most fiscally responsible budgets in state history, prioritizing Floridians over the expansion of government. The $115.1 billion budget reflects a $3.8 billion reduction in total state spending while keeping $12.4 billion in reserves, protecting our AAA credit rating, and safeguarding the state against future uncertainty. Simultaneously, we delivered nearly $1.3 billion in recurring tax relief, including eliminating the state's business rent tax and repealing the aviation fuel tax. That repeal will directly benefit Florida's tourism economy, airline routes, cargo operations, and job creation across our state and at home.
This fiscal discipline did not come at the expense of core services. On the contrary, Florida delivered record investments in some of our community's most pressing challenges. The state committed $810 million to Everglades restoration, the most significant single-year investment in history, directly protecting Biscayne Bay and our vulnerable coastal waters. Another $461 million was allocated for water quality improvements, wastewater infrastructure, and stormwater upgrades, addressing decades-old problems that cities like Miami Beach have struggled to overcome. Emergency preparedness remains a top priority, with $500 million in dedicated funding and nearly $850 million to ensure our coastal communities are better equipped to face hurricanes and major storms.
Our work extended far beyond the budget. We passed legislation strengthening coastal resilience through nature-based infrastructure solutions that help protect our neighborhoods from flooding while preserving Florida's natural beauty. We also passed vessel accountability reforms that strengthen enforcement on Florida's waterways, protecting both boaters and marine life in Biscayne Bay and our surrounding waters. Additionally, we enacted new protections against the unlawful demolition of historic structures, an issue critically important to preserving the identity and integrity of Miami Beach. We expanded emergency medical services by ensuring organizations like Hatzalah are fully authorized to provide lifesaving care to our residents. We advanced endangered species protections, promoted stronger state land management, improved firefighter safety standards, enhanced diabetes management for school children, and further strengthened animal cruelty laws.
Importantly, we secured state funding for infrastructure projects right here at home, including the critical Bay Harbor Islands Bridge, which represents the collaboration that delivers meaningful improvements for our community's daily lives. We also advanced local option tax reforms that give counties more flexibility while still protecting the long-term financial stability of local governments like Miami-Dade.
On housing, we made real progress on affordable and workforce housing initiatives, including new exemptions for developments on state-owned and government-owned lands. This legislation creates sustainable housing opportunities while protecting our neighborhoods from uncontrolled overdevelopment. We passed major property tax reforms that expand transparency, give homeowners better tools to challenge unfair assessments, and protect taxpayers across the state.
Furthermore, we invested heavily in education, increasing per-student funding to the highest levels in state history and delivering well-deserved salary increases to experienced classroom teachers. Our commitment to public safety remained equally strong, with significant funding increases for law enforcement officers, firefighters, mental health services, veterans' programs, elder care, and early childhood intervention. Seniors in Florida will see expanded Medicaid funding for nursing homes, greater support for Alzheimer's services, and broader access to specialized healthcare programs. Florida's veterans also benefited from expanded health care services, more substantial mental health support, suicide prevention resources, and continued funding for long-term care centers dedicated to serving those who have served our country.
Some of my cities thrive more than others. It is no secret that there is a political machine that does not want these partnerships to be realized on behalf of residents and businesses. Local elections are your most important elections. Please educate yourselves, reach out to me, and stay engaged. We must eliminate professional politicians who do not put people first, no matter how much they smile and sing for you or how nice they act to your face. Your local governments are strong city manager governments. The politicians do not run your cities, but they do complicate your lives. Most of my cities are thriving. Some of them are only thriving off of you. There is a difference.
Please stay engaged with me, follow my social media, and help me remove some of the grandstanding establishment politicians in District 106 so we can be more united and stronger and continue winning for everyday people and our small businesses for You!
