Period 3 — British, Spanish, And The New American Republic: The transition from British and Spanish colonial rule to the new American Republic brought the Seminole Wars — a brutal series of conflicts that reshaped the region’s demographics and power structure.
Period 4 — The End Of Reconstruction And The Rise Of Jim Crow: The adoption of Florida’s 1885 constitution dismantled the gains of Reconstruction for Black Floridians, ushering in an era of systematic disenfranchisement and racial terror. This period culminated in the Newberry lynchings of 1916 — one of the most violent episodes in Alachua County history.
