Doral, Florida - Mery Lopez-Palma is an accomplished lawyer, mother and political activist, who is stepping into the political arena in order to bring new dynamism to the local Republican Party. Her campaign slogan is: “God, Family, Country.” Her election for Republican State Committeewoman will take place on Tuesday, August 20, with two weeks of early voting.
Mery has been practicing law in her own firm since joining the Florida bar in 2003. She has been particularly active practicing real estate law, and she holds licenses for realtor and real estate broker. Her practice also includes probate matters, and she is an entrepreneur, having started up local bakery businesses. She is a long-time member of the Republican National Lawyers Association, and has served as the director in Broward County of the Christian Family Coalition, a public policy advocacy group, since 2015. She is not seeking public office in order to earn a living or enhance her net worth.
She has also raised four children with her husband, and has served as both a Boy Scout mom and a Girl Scout mom, as well as a Little League coach. Her husband, Armando Palma, is a local real estate mogul in Hialeah and enthusiastically supports her professional and political activities. Mery immigrated lawfully with her family from Cuba around 50 years ago via the Freedom Flights that landed in Opa-Locka airport.
Mery has also served as a political activist for the Republican party throughout her career. She is precinct committeewoman for Southwest Ranches, and the events chairwoman for the party in Broward County. Last year she was selected the Republican political activist of the year in Broward County. She started the practice of holding “meet and greet” events for the Republican party around the county, and now her example has been copied county-wide. She works with such grassroots conservative groups as Turning Point USA, as well as with the Young Republican groups. She is also a major fundraiser for the Broward REC, having helped to raise $350,000 in the last two years, including an event at Trump International golf club nearby.
Last year she brought the 917 Society to Broward County in order to put a copy of the United States Constitution (and the Declaration of Independence) in the hands of every eighth grader in all elementary schools. She is planning to do it again in September this year.
Supporting Candidates
In her role as political activist, she supports such conservative candidates as: (1) Chris Eddy for Congress; and (2) George Navarini for District 103 of the State House of Representatives. Both are running to unseat entrenched woke progressives: Congresswoman Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz, and Representative Robin Bartleman, respectively.
In addition to these two candidates, she has recruited, mentored and supported such local candidates as: (1) Tom Vasquez for School Board, District 9; (2) Bill Reichart for District 90 of the State House of Representatives; (3) Nina Culver for Commissioner of the City of Margate; and (4) Fabio Andrade, President of Republican Amigos, for Commissioner of the City of Weston. All these candidates have endorsed Mery for State Committeewoman in Broward County.
She also has the endorsements of: (1) Chris Marino, Chairman of the Broward Republican Executive Committee; (2) Steve Stern, Vice Chairman of BREC; (3) Peggy Brown, Mayor of the City of Weston; (4) Brenda Fam, School Board member; (5) John Brodie, Commissioner of the City of Coconut Creek; and (6) Bob Sutton, President of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Broward County.
Mery’s Opponent
Michele Merrell has been the Republican Committeewoman for Broward County since 2018. She claims a commitment to growing the membership of the local party and holding elected officials accountable, but there is little evidence of her doing any of that. She has conducted no recruiting, training or fundraising for candidates, and she has neglected party activists.
1. For example, there are 13 state legislative seats in Broward County up for election this year, but Republicans hold only one and are challenging Democrats in only four other seats, two with no-hope candidates. Similarly, there are no Republican candidates for any of the seven county-wide constitutional offices: County Mayor, Sheriff, State’s Attorney, Public Defender, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser and Supervisor of Elections.
2. Most of the new Republican registered voters are Hispanic, for which Michele has no outreach. Hispanics now represent 24.5% of registered voters in the county, and continue to grow. They will be the largest minority by the beginning of next year. In comparison, Mery is a lawful immigrant and has native fluency in Spanish. Consequently, she recruited Tom Vasquez to run for School Board, and supports George Navarini for State House, both bilingual Hispanics.
3. Michele also has no connections with the black community, while Mery has the support of “Blacks for Trump” and reaches out to black folks. Some say that Mery is ghetto, but ghetto is better than gulag, which is where we are being led by RINO’s.
4. As a member of the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Florida, Michelle has also participated in the RPOF’s lawfare against the Florida Republican Assembly and other grassroots conservative groups and the MAGA and America First movement. She backs RINO establishment candidate Tom Leek in State Senate District 7 around St. Augustine. He is the candidate of the insurance industry that has given us such high rates.
5. While the RPOF has pursued lawfare against conservatives, it has ignored the threat of voting by non-citizens. Florida has been flooded with over 300,000 illegal aliens, and Secretary of State Cord Byrd has admitted that Florida does not have a system to check the citizenship status of registered voters. Earlier this year the RPOF also placed itself on the wrong side of legislative battles for election integrity. One example was supporting a bill criminalizing poll-watchers accused of so-called harassment of election workers. This bill was defeated by a coalition of grassroots conservative groups and the MAGA and America First movement.
Mery has consistently supported Trump for President from the beginning. She stands with grassroots conservative groups and the MAGA and America First movement, while her opponent is part of the RINO establishment. Mery will keep the GOP on the right track.
There is a similarity in the races for Republican State Committeewomen in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. In both counties, new, dynamic and refreshing candidates are challenging entrenched RINO establishmentarians. As these two counties turn more conservative and Republican, we should not be surprised that new leadership is called for.
