Miami, Florida - Pope Leo XIV announced his support for President Trump’s 20-point plan for peace in Gaza, calling it a realistic proposal. It is a good recommendation.
Cardinal Blase Cupich, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Chicago, announced that Democrat Senator Dick Durbin has decided not to accept the recognition from the Church that had been promised to him. This brings an end to the controversy created by the Cardinal when he announced his decision to honor Senator Durbin, a staunch advocate of abortion. The intervention of several Archbishops and Cardinals was needed to prevent support for Cardinal Cupich’s ill-conceived proposal. Cupich was appointed by Pope Francis and is one of several Communist prelates in the Church hierarchy.

Democrats, led by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, have caused the government shutdown. Hatred for President Trump has blinded many members of Congress who would normally act differently. Many will be affected, but Social Security checks will still be sent as usual to all beneficiaries.
The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, decided not to invite Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua to the Summit of the Americas, which will be held in Punta Cana during December. The Dominicans have clearly shown courage and principle, and we send them a warm embrace from Miami.
We knew the President of Colombia was foolish—but this foolish? He urged U.S. military personnel to ignore the orders they receive from their government while on American soil, and as a result, he has been banned from visiting the United States. In the middle of New York City and shouting, he asked the U.S. military to disobey their superiors. Poor Colombia!
Rumors from Cuba claim that Raúl Castro has been admitted to intensive care in a Cuban hospital. In recent photos, Raúl appears very frail, but we won’t know the truth until the regime makes an official statement. Raúl “no longer cuts or digs,” as the saying goes.
New York Mayor Eric Adams announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for Mayor of New York. He was running as an independent in the general election, after declining to run in the Democrat primary because of his poor job approval. We imagine he will now support former Governor Cuomo to try to stop the communist Mandami, but Adams has not endorsed Cuomo. Some think that Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa should withdraw as well, so that the communist candidate will have a single opponent in the general election. Even though Cuomo isn’t ideal, he’s less bad than the communist Mandami. On the other hand, Cuomo is almost as far left as Mamdani, so why not go the full Monty? God help us!
Bad Bunny, a mediocre and troublesome performer, will be the featured artist for the NFL’s famous Super Bowl halftime show. This event deteriorates more every year. With so many prominent bilingual Latino artists, the NFL had to choose this kind of dreadful “language.” Some have called for the NFL to pick a halftime entertainer who football fans enjoy, like Jason Aldean or even George Strait.
The U.S. economy grew by 3.8% in the second quarter of the year—well above expectations. And then they say Trump is a problem. He’s only a problem for the enemies of our country.
There is a strong possibility that the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library will be built in downtown Miami, next to the Freedom Tower on Biscayne Boulevard. It is said that it will be the most spectacular presidential library in the country. Certainly it will be better than the Obama Presidential Center under construction in the South Side of Chicago. The Obamaleum combines the architectural styles of Soviet Brutalism and Great Zimbabwe, and it does not contain a presidential library.
Claudia Cardinale, a legend of Italian cinema, has died at the age of 87. May she rest in peace!
Joanne Chesimard (also known as Assata Shakur), a member of the Black Liberation Front and the murderer of a New Jersey police officer who escaped from the United States in 1979 and took refuge in Cuba, has finally died in Havana without ever being extradited back to the U.S. She had been on the FBI’s list of the 10 most wanted fugitives!
According to The New Times, the most popular restaurants in Miami-Dade County during the month of September were Koko and Amal in Coconut Grove, along with Bayshore Club and Level 6. Also Zucca, Bulla, Perry’s, Beauty and the Butcher, and Fogo de Chão in Coral Gables. Another place that’s always full is MesaMar, also in the City Beautiful—very popular and consistent in the quality of its dishes.
Incidentally, Fifi and the Valls family celebrated MesaMar’s tenth anniversary with a spectacular dinner and unlimited Caymus wines.
The famous Madrid restaurant Amazónico has opened its doors in Brickell, and its success is already evident from how difficult it is to get reservations. Once we try it, we’ll share our review.
A boy goes to the hospital with his father to visit a friend of his. He touches the patient’s feet several times. “What are you doing?” asks the patient. “I was counting your feet—it looks like you have both of them.” “Of course! Did you doubt it?” “No, it’s just that my dad told me you had one foot in the other world.”
