Miami, Florida - Two earthquakes, one of magnitude 7.2 and another of 7.5, struck the northern coast of Venezuela and areas of Caracas. Something devastating that has left the long-suffering people of our brother nation going through sad and difficult times. Caracas airport has been severely damaged, and buildings have been destroyed. We will learn the full extent of those affected in the coming days, but more than 1,900 deaths have already been reported, along with thousands injured and missing. A heavy blow to a country that was in the midst of a process of change, after emerging from a mad ruler who had kept the nation in a state of perpetual crisis. We pray to God to help the Venezuelan people overcome this crisis, and we are grateful that President Trump and Secretary of State Rubio are providing massive aid on behalf of the people of the United States.
Judge John Couriel of the Florida Supreme Court will become the next Chief Justice in July. Judge Couriel, born in Miami in March 1978, is a Cuban American whose father was a Pedro Pan child. We feel very proud of this new triumph for one of our own.
The sad title of the American city with the most mosquitoes went to Los Angeles, followed by New York, Chicago and Atlanta.
An exceptional Cuban immigrant and brilliant gastroenterologist from Mercy Hospital, Dr. Andrés Candela, recently passed away. Our condolences to his beloved wife Teresita and his entire family. Rest in peace, Andrés!
It seems unbelievable, but it’s true. Washington D.C. has just voted for a socialist as mayor of the city. This is not a shame. It is a sacrilege. We already have a socialist as mayor in New York City, and the disaster is pathetic. How long are we going to tolerate this? She won the primary and now she is going to win the election. What is this country turning into? We cannot allow the fever of socialism and betrayal to continue in our nation. Congress should take away home-rule authority from the District of Columbia, and appoint a new administration.
The mayor of New York City decided to jump into the ring to promote three socialist candidates who were competing against incumbent long-time progressive Democrats in Congress. The first to lose was the Dominican Adriano Espaillat, who was crushed by a communist activist. Merely progressive Democrats are not leftist enough, making way for the socialists of Mamdani, AOC and company. How sad! In addition, these elections were decided with very low turnout, around seven to 15%, so good people are not showing up to express their views. This must be reversed.
A wonderful young conservative woman has just announced her intention to run for City Commissioner in Coral Gables. It is Nikki Whiting. Our full support for someone who has worked for years on conservative causes and who will be an excellent Commissioner.
James Carville, better known as Triple Ugly, was the favorite spokesman for Bill and Hillary Clinton for years. Over the years he has been the Democrats’ “smoke screen.” Now he is fixated on Florida, saying that Republicans will lose the Governorship and the Senate seat. Triple Ugly is going to come face to face with the strength of Republicans in this state. Of course, the reason he says that is because Republicans will likely run weak candidates with little popular support in those two races.
“Travel & Leisure” magazine published a very extensive report on the dirtiest cities in the United States. It turned out that, of the five dirtiest, three are located in California. The first is San Bernardino, followed by Los Angeles; then comes Detroit, and Ontario, also in California. Very interesting!
At a critical moment when Trump has Iran by the throat, the United States Senate strikes a blow against democracy and votes for our country to abandon the fight against Iran. Democrats have become students of Jane Fonda. In reality, this vote will be symbolic because their resolution will not be sent to the President for his signature. Once again, the usual Republican RINOs joined with the Democrats to reach a majority. After November, their numbers will drop by at least 50%. God willing!
A donkey dies in front of a church. A week later the body is still there, and Father Feliciano decides to call the police chief. “Mr. Chief, I have had a dead donkey in front of the church for a week.” The policeman, a great political adversary of the priest, replies: “But Father, isn’t it the Lord who has the obligation to take care of the dead?” To which the clergyman replied: “That’s right! But it is also my obligation to notify the relatives!”
