Infiltration of Cuban exile circles by Havana’s agents is again in the news. ICE says that Fernando Armando Valdés Pérez, a Kendall resident for years, was a Cuban intelligence asset who grew close to the late Luis Posada Carriles. He was arrested at Miami International Airport on July 10 and removed to Guatemala on August 7—not “returned to Cuba.” The case was immigration fraud (concealed intelligence ties), not a public espionage indictment. Questions remain; the destination was Guatemala, where he also holds citizenship.

She has been neither convicted nor acquitted; prosecutors may retry. That is the outcome many expected given the postpartum-psychosis defense.
