Miami, Florida - The infiltration of Castro-regime agents into Cuban patriot circles in South Florida is again in the news. U.S. authorities say that Fernando Armando Valdés Pérez, 61, a longtime resident of Kendall, an unincorporated area in southwest Miami-Dade County, and lawful permanent resident of the United States, was a Cuban intelligence asset who gained the trust of the late militant Luis Posada Carriles and other exile figures. ICE arrested him at Miami International Airport on July 10 and removed him on August 7. It is likely that there are more such agents.
MacKenzie Scott has become one of the world’s largest living charitable donors. She has given more than $26 billion to thousands of nonprofits in the years since her 2019 divorce from Jeff Bezos, in which she received Amazon stock. That is a remarkable record of philanthropy. Unfortunately, most of her recipients have been woke progressive causes and institutions.
Lionel Messi announced his retirement from the Argentina national soccer team. At the age of 39, after six World Cups and a 2022 title, he said the time had come. He wrote his retirement note after the 2026 World Cup final and published it this month after his father’s death. Nevertheless, he continues to play for the Inter Miami soccer club in the misnamed Major League Soccer league. That is why fans asked “why now?” The answer he gave was that he had nothing left to give the national side. His leadership at Inter Miami is a separate, still-active chapter.
The Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas on September 9–10 was a first-of-its-kind party showcase, with President Trump and Vice President Vance among the headliners. Whether it becomes “a formidable spectacle that drives Reagan-party voters to the polls in November” is a matter to be seen. The event itself happened as scheduled.
Rudy Giuliani remains, for many New Yorkers, the Mayor most associated with the City’s response to September 11, 2001. He said that the presence of current Mayor Zohran Mamdani at the 25th-anniversary ceremonies saddened and offended him. Mamdani attended anyway. At Ground Zero the two men shook hands; Giuliani later said that he told the Mayor he prayed for him and that it was a hard job. During the ceremonies, while the names of the dead were being read, Mamdani was seen laughing and joking with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortes. It is a great irony that only a quarter-century after 9/11, New York City has elected a Jihadist Mayor.
Former New York Congressman Pete King said that Mayor Mamdani should stay away from the remembrance events. Mamdani confirmed he would be there—and he was.
Believe it or not: Hunter Biden, after a full pardon from his father in December 2024 covering federal gun and tax cases, told a radio host that if he got the host’s endorsement, then he “may have to” run for president in 2028. Hunter is probably not serious, but then the other potential Democrat candidates are not very serious either.
United States Army Secretary Dan Driscoll submitted his resignation to President Trump after about 18 months in the job and months of reported friction with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The White House confirmed the departure, and reporting tied it to clashes over Hegseth’s removal of senior Army officers. These officers had supported President Obama’s woke policies of diversity, equity and incusion, which lowered the Army’s lethality.
Newt Gingrich predicts that Republicans will pick up House and Senate seats, and that Democrats will be surprised. Many journalists and some Republican strategists have been warning of midterm risk for the party in power. Whether “Americans will not try on socialism or communism” in November remains to be seen. The Democrat Socialists of America have taken over the Democrat party, and have moved it to the far left.
The jury in the Lindsay Clancy case told the judge that it could not agree. He sent them back. After roughly 38 hours they still could not reach a unanimous verdict. On September 4 the judge declared a mistrial. That is not a conviction and not an acquittal. Prosecutors may retry her. She remains in a state hospital. The outcome many feared—an immediate, final “not guilty” verdict—did not arrive. A hung jury did.
Pete Hegseth flatly denied an NBC report that he was considering a 2028 presidential run. “100% false,” he wrote, accusing the network of relying on anonymous sources after he had told them otherwise. The denial is on the record. NBC is a woke progressive broadcaster with a record of providing misinformation.
Daniel Ortega and his wife, Rosario Murillo, Co-Presidents of the Republic of Nicaragua, have moved to lock in one-family rule in that country. Ortega said there would be “no more elections” so the opposition could not “seize the government.” The National Assembly then extended their term and barred opposition figures, which it labeled “traitors.” Representative government is a bourgeois convention. That is a hard blow to what little electoral pretense remained, and now electoral integrity has been eliminated. Nicaragua’s turn is real and grim.
Maria Bartiromo’s exit from Fox News after about 12½ years was abrupt. Fox said only that she was no longer with the company, effective immediately. Reporting later said the break followed her sharing internal Fox Business guidance with the White House. The network has not confirmed that on the record. Her programs were widely watched; the departure surprised the industry. This is the third news anchor that Fox has fired for investigating its coverage of the 2020 presidential election. The others were Lou Dobbs and Tucker Carlson. Fox News collaborated with the mainstream media to cover up the theft of the 2020 presidential election, and they do not like being called out on this by their own anchors.
Lourdes del Río, a familiar face on Univision’s national newscast for many years, is leaving the network. We enjoyed her work for over two decades, and wish her well in the next stage of her life.
