Miami, Florida - Your columnist disagrees with our Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar on President Trump’s immigration policy. She still has every right to speak. Her warning is close to what other conservative Republicans have said: some of the measures now in force are counterproductive. Anyone who has broken U.S. immigration law is here illegally—but every rule has hard cases: a Nicaraguan journalist, a Venezuelan businessman, a Cuban rafter. Salazar has voted with her party more often than her predecessors and has earned another term for the work she and her office do for her Congressional District.
On Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Colombia, El Salvador, and the rest of Central America and the Caribbean, Congresswoman Salazar stands with the most anti-communist Republicans. There is an organized effort to defeat her, but your columnist will vote for her and recommend her to family and friends. Do not give up the House so the next two years become a slog against the socialist wing of the Democrat Party.
