Grove Isle, Florida — María Corina Machado has written that it is essential she return to Venezuela. The New York Post published her pleadings. She is the leader of the democratic opposition to the interim government installed by the United States, but her socialist background makes her an untrustworthy ally. She needs American support that so she is not attacked on the way home, but her ties with the Nobel Peace Prize and the Vatican make her hard to support. President Trump and Secretary Rubio should help her get to Caracas, but not to take over the government.
Ken Griffin gave $2 billion for a Carnegie Mellon University technology and finance campus in Wynwood, part of a $3 billion gift that is the largest single donation to an American university. The Citadel chief wants a first-rate technology and finance university in Miami, and he is putting his money behind it.
The November elections are the most important in 50 years, or at least since 2024. Vote for every Republican on the ballot, even those who are not our first choice. The choice is between keeping the democracy that received us when we fled communism, and opening the door to socialism and communism here, as well as global jihad.
Zemi Miches is the newest major tourist development in the Dominican Republic, about an hour from Punta Cana. The hotel is owned by the Reynieri family, known for their hotel investments. There are facilities for children, luxury restaurants, and full-service hotels and airports. A spectacular destination.
Newt Gingrich, who was Speaker of the House in difficult years, says Republicans will hold the Senate and possibly the House. Polls favor the Democrats, but Gingrich is confident the conservatives will win. This country cannot accept a socialist victory in Congress.
The head of Tennessee’s prison system resigned after a failed attempt to execute a woman who had been on death row for many years. Very regrettable. There is suspicion that the executioners intentionally botched the job, in order to save the prisoner and bring disrepute to the death penalty.
Brazil’s election earlier this month produced a first-place finisher who still fell short of 50 percent. Flávio Bolsonaro, son of the former president, led with about 47 percent, followed by the incumbent President, socialist Lula da Silva, at about 45 percent. With so many candidates in the field, no one cleared the threshold, so there will be a runoff this month. If Bolsonaro wins the runoff on Sunday, October 25, the country will leave behind Lula’s interventions to promote communism in hemispheric politics. The third-place finisher endorsed Bolsonaro this last weekend.
Karoline Leavitt, who resigned a couple of months ago as White House press secretary, has just been signed by Fox News as a regular contributor. She left saying she needed time for her two young children, including a newborn, but would keep supporting the president and the Republican Party. Her start date is November 1.
Four brave Israelis risked their lives on a plane bound for Israel and stopped a Jihadist who meant to crash it with 175 people aboard. They deserve applause.
Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert died at 84 in his native Illinois. He was a scandal: he served prison time after admitting he had abused boys he coached as a high-school wrestling coach and then pleading guilty to bank fraud for trying to buy their silence. He replaced Newt Gingrich as Speaker from 1999 to 2007.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Venezuela needs free elections as soon as possible, as well as lasting institutions. These institutions include respect for the rule of law, toleration of dissent and unconditional support for free speech. There was a small shift in tone that the Venezuelan community in South Florida received well. In my modest opinion, Marco is the most intelligent and skillful politician in this administration.
Mesabi Metallics, a mining company based in Minnesota, announced an $18 billion plan that includes a new $15 billion steel plant in Iowa, and $3 billion to finish its Minnesota iron-ore mine. It would be the largest steel complex ever built in the United States, creating 1,750 permanent jobs and 6,000 construction jobs. A solid injection into Iowa’s economy that we applaud.

Thank the Spaniards and the Teatro Real for letting us enjoy this marvel without leaving home. Thank you! Now wish the Spanish people luck in their upcoming national elections to replace their incumbent socialist government.
