A coordinated attack by a faction of antagonists in the Brevard Republican Executive Committee – with the cooperation of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) leadership – removed BREC Chairman Rick Lacey from office on October 21, 2025. He was not the only county chairman adversely affected, but it set the stage for destruction in several Florida locations.
Then, at a November 24, 2025 special BREC membership meeting that I conducted as the Acting Chairman, matters only worsened. At this meeting, the faction of 7 to 10 people fraudulently and illegally elected a new Chairman and a new State Committeeman – with the RPOF leadership affirming the fraud. We were a group of 158 members present, who were told we were “not paying attention.” That same night RPOF Chairman Power and Executive Director Helmich conspired with the faction further by instantly affirming this fraudulent REC election
When these leaders were approached with our reports of the fraudulent election results, we were told by Executive Director Helmich, “Any issues you may have with the election that took place on November 24, 2025 should follow the Grievance Process outlined by RULE 22 of the RPOF Rules of Procedure.” So, we did. A lot of grievances (over 40) were filed. Members, looking for assistance from the Republican executive branch also sent letters to the Governor, and the Secretary of State’s office was also contacted. No one cared to be involved in righting this wrong. Along with the grievances that were filed, Executive Director Helmich was provided with 50 signed REC affidavits denouncing the results of the November 24th election and was offered a petition with over 100 Brevard REC signatures stating the election was false.
Mid-January 2026 the minutes for the faction’s fraudulent meeting were made available. We now had 2 versions of minutes for the single meeting held on November 24th. More importantly, we had the audio recording of the REC meeting. Reading the two versions of the minutes and comparing them with the recording clearly showed what actually happened. It demonstrated the multitude of lies that had been propagated by the faction in their version of the minutes. RPOF chairman Power was provided this information on February 4th, and was again asked to intercede. He still has not responded.
Now in the beginning of March, 90 days after submitting their grievances, members of the REC began to receive a form letter dismissing the grievances from Executive Director Helmich. The reason for dismissal?” Allegations raised in your grievance are void as no Members of the SEC challenged the sitting of the Brevard REC Chair and State Committeeman, under Rule 21”. They were dismissed by Executive Director Helmich, the same person who instructed us to file grievances if we had trouble with the election! He made no mention of notifying a member of the SEC to challenge the results.
This weasel-like behavior by the RPOF leadership, coupled with their collaboration with the faction, was expected by members of the REC. We had all heard the stories about similar duplicitous authoritarian actions conducted by the RPOF on other County RECs’. Our members have lost confidence in RPOF leadership due to their lack of honor and integrity.
Most of the loyal Brevard REC members are anxious to work the upcoming elections so we have formed a coalition called the Brevard Conservative Patriots to provide a forum for honest and honorable people to inform the public on local political issues and to facilitate members getting directly engaged with grassroot candidate election campaigns. It provides people the ability to uphold their Republican values, without having to engage with the corrupt Brevard County Executive Committee leaders or the unethical RPOF leadership.
