John has been an innovative entrepreneur in the information technology industry for some 40 years. His first company built low-cost and scalable broadband Internet services before any competition reached this market. This company is a leader in scalable cloud video/imaging technology sector, and it is an innovator of edge-intelligent Artificial Intelligence technology for critical infrastructure in the entire United States. It introduced Nvidia-running AI models to improve the reliability of Florida Power & Light’s power grid during the Covid shutdowns. John has also served as CEO of various other publicly-listed and privately-held technology companies.
PHILANTHROPIST
John has lived in Miami-Dade County for over 25 years, and during that time he has served on the Board of Directors of Camillus House and its Camillus Health Concern. This is a Christian mission located near downtown Miami, and it serves the hungry, the homeless and the marginalized in the county.
Camillus House provides their homeless clients with material assistance, such as food, housing, medical care and more to address short-term needs. Then it equips them with counseling, job training and other resources so that they can create a better future. Camillus Health Concern provides comprehensive healthcare services and the highest quality patient experience for the truly needy.
John has also hosted the annual Educate Tomorrow gala events to support an organization that provides education and life-skills training for foster care children who age out of the system.
PUBLIC SERVANT
John was elected in 2012 to serve a four-year term as Vice Mayor of Palmetto Bay, and was re-elected by his satisfied constituents in 2016. During his public service, he supported neighborhood protection to maintain quality of life, public safety programs and improved village services without raising taxes. His experience in public service inspired him to seek public office again to replace public officials who serve special interests instead of the public.
His focus is on the following priorities:
1. Traffic relief and investment.
2. Affordable housing and responsible development.
3. Jobs in South Dade.
4. Fiscal responsibility, discipline and competence.
5. Honesty and integrity in public service.
John is running against an incumbent Commissioner, Danielle Cohen Higgins, who was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners itself to her office in 2020 - - selected, not elected - - and then won election in 2022 with the advantage of incumbency. This advantage adds up to a success rate of over 90%. The incumbent is unresponsive to constituents, and has a record of taking donations from special interests, and then voting and promoting those special interests, instead of the public interest of her constituents.
In addition, the incumbent Commissioner was chairwoman of the committee overseeing the situation at the PortMiami fuel depot, and showed negligence and incompetence in her supervision. The private developer of the fuel depot has made substantial campaign donations to the incumbent Commissioner.
John has achieved such financial success that he is able to fund his own campaign. He does not rely on campaign donations from special interests or their lobbyists and political action committees. He also will not rely on the slush funds made available by the County to its Commissioners for campaigning activities.
