Doral, Florida - Two years ago President Trump won 55% of the votes in Miami-Dade County, and almost half of the votes in State House District 117, located in South Miami-Dade County. The Republican candidate running in this District against a Democrat incumbent won 47% of the votes. These percentages highlight that this District is ripe for a Republican take-away. Executing such a take-away, however, will require a lot of work, especially going door-to-door, and enough money to get out the Republican message against the Democrat incumbent. Miguel Granda is hard at work on this campaign.
Miguel is 34 years old, married, was born to Cuban immigrant parents in Miami-Dade County, and has lived here all his life. Back in his early 20’s he fell into illegal drug trafficking and narrowly avoided conviction in federal court. His Christian faith, however, redeemed him, and he has been a law-abiding citizen ever since those early mistakes.
Since November 2020, Miguel has worked as a legislative aid to State Representative David Borrero (R-District 111) in Doral. David, like Miguel, is a staunch Christian conservative who has proposed the following legislation:
1. Requiring public schools to teach students about the dangers of communism.
2. Resolution condemning the Democratic Socialists of America and seeking to strip away their tax-exempt status.
House District 117 includes the cities of Florida City, Homestead, Palmetto Bay and parts of Cutler Bay, all in southern Miami-Dade County. Around 39% of its voters are registered Democrats, 32% are unaffiliated, and 29% are Republicans. The District is ethnically diverse, with 59% of voters identifying as Hispanic, 26% as black, and 8% as Anglo. The Granda campaign observed that: “District 117, once solidly Democrat, has shifted dramatically toward Republicans and unaffiliated voters in recent years.”
Miguel is President of Miami Young Republicans and a member of the Miami-Dade County Republican Executive Committee. He is also: a member of the Community Council for Area 12 of unincorporated Miami-Dade County; a member of the Advisory Board of Men of Valor, a prison ministry; and Chairman of the National Americans of Faith Alliance.
Miguel’s priorities include:
1. Financial relief to lower the cost of living, including lower taxes and insurance premiums.
2. Safe streets and neighborhoods, keeping kids on the right track.
3. Quality schools that prepare students for prosperous careers and success in vocational or higher education.
4. Tirelessly championing the interests of the residents and families of District 117.
As a legislative aide in Tallahassee, Miguel helped families to navigate through the complexities of the state bureaucracy. He has the experience of having had to overcome bad choices that he made in his youth. He is determined to act as the champion in Tallahassee for every family, business and neighbor in this District. He supports Amendment No. 3 to reduce property taxes, and his opponent voted against it.
Miguel is ready to join the Republican majority in Tallahassee with his extensive experience as a legislative aide. The Democrat party has been captured by globalists, communists and jihadists, led by Barack Hussein Obama. Voters seeking more affordability should avoid voting for the unhinged spending, higher taxes and stifling regulations that would be the result of Democrat government.
