A Republican Party of Florida recent newsletter hawks the narrative that Governor Ron DeSantis just signed into law 'Constitutional Carry' in Florida.

    However, this is not true.

The law is not Constitutional Carry as you can't carry openly without a permit. Florida is the only state out of 26 that has a permit-less carry bill that does not allow open carry.

As Kellyanne Conway famously said -- the Republican Party of Florida is telling 'alternate facts'.

What else is the RPOF telling 'alternate facts' about?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed House Bill (HB) 543 which strengthens Floridians’ Second Amendment rights by allowing Floridians to carry concealed weapons without a government-issued permit. HB 543 goes into effect on July 1, 2023, making Florida the 26th state to enact Constitutional Carry legislation.

“Constitutional Carry is in the books,” said Governor Ron DeSantis.

Still, I prefer concealed carry over open carry, anyway.

I was raised in Tucson, Az. I learned over 50 yrs ago about Constitutional carry. I was sent to Texas in 1976 and learned very quickly how Texas is not a 2nd Amendment friendly State. The most disseminated lie beside the election of Biden in America is how everyone in Texas has a firearm. You can go to prison if you are caught with a handgun in your car in Texas. Unless you pay a good chunk of money you cannot carry firearms legally.
If Florida requires a permit to carry a firearm anywhere open or concealed they are no different from Texas. I believe that I'll enjoy the Constitution in Arizona.

Florida is not the type of place where we want people walking around with guns strapped to their bodies in open view. People come to the Sunshine State to relax.

mr smith, the Bill of Rights says it is. who do you think you are to say different? i relax knowing that i have the ability to protect myself and people i care about when i am "strapped". if you are afraid of inanimate objects, go to some place where they are not allowed. oh wait, they are everywhere, even in places where they are not allowed. you cannot legislate evil or morality.

Open carry is just asking for trouble in many instances. You let the perp KNOW you are armed, and exactly where and what you have. They run up on you, sucker punch you and steal your gun.

While I believe that a person should be able to carry whatever gun they wish, legally, I do not believe America is mature enough anymore to open carry responsibly as a general. Too many would try to be thuggy thug the ghe tto bug with it and just cause a nuisance.

Yes, Yes, I know, the problem would sort itself out, but there will be too many baby mamma's on tv wailing, my wiul anguhl nebber dun nuffins wrong! as the police are changing out the ink cartridge so they can finish printing off it's rap sheet.

Work thru the concealed first, when people learn how to do that properly, then they can move on to open carry.

I also think there should be some mandatory safety class as well, since gun safety is never taught anymore in skuhl.

    "...strengthens 2A ... by allowing ..."

Both terms imply a privilege granted by the state. Should say *respects* and *restoring* instead. Words matter and Florida's Republican party certainly knows it.

Well said, some people will never understand the "inanimate object" part.
