[Washington, DC, December 12th, 2022] This week I was honored to be invited to attend the International Democracy Union Forum. IDU was formed in 1983 by Prime Mister Margaret Thatcher and then Vice-President George H Bush, Sr. It was formed as a unique gathering of International Leaders committed "to advancing the social and political values on which democratic societies are founded, including the basic personal freedoms and human rights, as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; in particular, the right of free speech, organization, assembly and non-violent dissent; the right to free elections and the freedom to organize effective parliamentary opposition to government; the right to a free and independent media; the right to religious belief; equality before the law; and individual opportunity and prosperity."
This year's forum topics focused primarily on the mid-term election, the 2024 Presidential Race, China, and the Ukraine war. Among all the talk of foreign policy and election integrity, I met Dinara Habibullaieva, a member of Kyiv City Council. She reminded me of the thousands of children that this year, will be forced to spend Christmas separated from their families and schoolmates in bomb shelters. She and her fellow Youth European Party members of Solidarna Molod have formed ChristmasBox. This project strives to bring a little comfort and joy this Christmas to the thousands of Children that are affected. I hope you will join me in donating to ChristmasBox to send each child a small shoebox of toys and treats. Donations can be made through PayPal by sending payment to [email protected].
