Milton Morrison has been making shrewd moves for years to set himself up to be the Barack Obama of the Dominican Republic. Founding ‘País Posible’ in 2017, a Dominican political party that sells hope and change to the people, Morrison set himself up to be a political kingmaker.
País Posible has gained steadily to be one of the top five political parties in the country, a force to be reckoned with that major parties have to court in order to win elections. Morrison has parlayed his political influence into cushy positions within the Dominican government.
Morrison currently serves as the director of the National Institute of Land Transit and Transportation (INTRANT), a national bureaucracy that oversees transit, roads and infrastructure in the Dominican Republic. Morrison has used INTRANT as a mechanism to promote his views of social change, positioning himself as a reformer who wants better social services to combat inequality.

But a financial scandal has the potential to derail Morrison’s ambitions and potentially put him behind bars. When Morrison was the General Administrator of Edesur Dominicana SA (EDESUR), a leading electricity provider in the Dominican Republic, Morrison engaged in real estate deals raising suspicion of his involvement in serious corruption and then failed to report those deals publicly in an apparent violation of criminal law.
Morrison failed to declare a large real estate purchase in Florida that occurred while he was leading EDESUR. Morrison and his wife, Davidia Del Carmen Jimenez, purchased a property in Weston, FL in Aug. 2021 for a total of $837,500, according to contracts obtained by the Miami Independent. Today, the property appraises for $1.7 million.

Here is the deed for the property Morrison failed to report as legally required on his disclosure documents:

A Claim of Lien filed by 911 Mold Testing LLC on the property for the total of $21,297 in Dec. 2024 suggests that Morrison and his wife continue to own the property:

Morrison's property acquisition suggests extreme corruption in his role at EDESUR considering he was able to buy such an extravagant property with a civil servant’s salary in an impoverished nation. The acquisition also runs afoul of Article 14 of Law 311-14, stating that public officials must submit records of their asset portfolio without any exceptions when they enter and leave office. The penalties for violating this provision include removal from office, being banned from serving in public office in the future, criminal charges for submitting fraudulent documents, and substantial fines.
Morrison's connections with Midas Dominicana (Midas Red) also raise serious questions. EDESUR under Morrison's leadership inked a direct contract with Midas Red, taking over prepaid and postpaid electricity services, in an apparent violation of the nation’s contracting law by sidestepping the mandated public tender process. The shady contract process was recommended by Jhonattan Chevalier, who worked at EDESUR before receiving a promotion to the Procurement Committee at INTRANT where he oversees contracts beneficial to Midas Red. Chevalier is an influential member of the Pais Posible, showing how cronyism is the hallmark of Morrison’s style of governance.
Morrison has cozied up to current Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader of the Modern Revolution Party. Morrison endorsed Abinader in 2020, lending the blessing of País Posible to Abinader and helping him secure the presidency. As director of INTRANT, Morrisson has been one of the loudest cheerleaders of the President’s policies, hoping that the fawning praise will help his career ambitions of worming up the bureaucratic ladder and potentially shield him from criminal liability from his EDESUR indiscretions.
“We have an open government and integrator, who in this new period, is leading to the beginning of an ambitious reform plan that will continue to change this nation, which already exhibits large progress and modernization,” Morrison said about Abinader’s policies, translated into English.
Morrison has set all of his X posts to private in an attempt to avoid culpability for this developing scandal. However, the allegations are not going away. Morrison’s facade as a man of the people is beginning to crumble. He is another pretender coming from a long line of demagogues who rise in third-world nations like the Dominican Republic claiming to stand for the people while engaging in graft behind the scenes, exploiting the economic hardship of the many to line their own pockets. Serious investigations and indictments are necessary on Morrison and his País Posible front to restore public trust and expose the extent of their alleged crimes.
The last thing any country needs is another commie disguised as an Obama. The US one was a destructive, evil force.
Congratulations for this courageous reporting!
