The Miami-Dade Republican Executive Committee (REC) has been shrouded in controversy and inaction since Chairman Kevin Cooper took office in December 2024. A recent gathering, disguised as a closed REC member-only meeting, was a mere presentation at the Dade County Supervisor of Elections. This event, attended by select REC members and non-REC individuals handpicked by Cooper, highlighted the committee's lack of transparency and proper governance.
Since assuming his role, Chairman Cooper has failed to conduct any substantial business for the REC. The two meetings under his leadership have been nothing more than "bread and circuses," devoid of meaningful motions or decisions. Moreover, Cooper has neglected to schedule meetings well in advance, preventing members from planning their attendance and risking their removal if they miss two consecutive meetings.
The Miami-Dade REC, which should comprise 160 positions filled by valid Republicans, has not seen any efforts from Cooper to advertise these openings through the Supervisor of Elections. This lack of initiative raises concerns about the committee's ability to represent the interests of the Republican Party in Miami-Dade County effectively.

Furthermore, Chairman Cooper has repeatedly disregarded the Republican Party of Florida's (RPOF) mandatory 10-day notice rule for member meetings. This failure to adhere to basic protocol has left REC members in the dark and unable to participate actively in the committee's proceedings.
The March meeting of the Miami-Dade REC was announced as a breakfast gathering featuring former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. While her presence drew attention, it is almost certain that almost no actual REC business was conducted. This pattern of prioritizing high-profile events over substantive work hinders the committee's ability to organize effectively and achieve its goals.
One of the primary objectives of the REC should be to register more Republicans and recruit District Precinct Captains to support this cause. Additionally, the committee must focus on backing all Republican candidates within the county. However, with Chairman Cooper's consistent failure to address these crucial tasks, the REC remains stagnant and ineffective. It is time for the Miami-Dade REC to refocus its efforts on fulfilling its core responsibilities and working towards the betterment of the Republican Party in our county.
The current state of affairs within the Miami-Dade REC is alarming and demands immediate attention. The committee must regain its focus on conducting official business, ensuring transparency, and representing the values of the Republican Party. Chairman Cooper must be held accountable for his actions and inactions, which have led to the stagnation and ineffectiveness of the REC.
As concerned citizens and members of the Republican Party, we must demand better from our leadership. The Miami-Dade REC plays a vital role in shaping our county's political landscape, and it must function efficiently, transparently, and in accordance with RPOF-established rules and guidelines. Only then can we hope to see progress and success within our party and our community. We encourage every registered Republican for at least 1 year to consider contacting the Miami-Dade Elections Department to fill the vacancies in the REC or you may respond to this article to get more information.
On point article, Doug! You may be too polite about the condition of today’s REC. For several years I attended its meetings in the official capacity as Alternate Committeeman, and I have never volunteered, or worked for, a more corrupt institution. They stopped following Robert’s Rules nearly two years ago – in order to avoid a vote on a common-sense transparency motion to share emails of all members – or, in other words, have been managing the meetings illegally ever since...
...Your comment that the new chair runs “bread and circuses” indicates continuity in that regard. My perception is that the RINOs – while shouting their support of Trump – will do anything to keep their own power indefinitely. They risk reversing all the political advances made in the county – largely due to Trump’s coattails. Concerned patriots need to step up to fill vacancies, before the Republican brand is destroyed county-wide.
