The joint venture OKXICE of OKX exchange and owner of the stock market NYSE, Intercontinental Exchange, published today a 53-page document with a list of more than 60 securities that will be issued as tokens on the new market and its structure.
OKXICE listed potential security token offerings from well-known technology and finance companies including Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet, as well as several companies with ties to the crypto space, including Coinbase, Circle, Robinhood, Strategy and Securitize. The offerings could also include JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Walmart, Netflix, Reddit and Boeing.
Tokenization can be viewed from several angles. In its simplest form, tokenization equals stocks & shares that are represented by digital tokens which can be traded on blockchain based exchanges.
Nvidia for example. As opposed to trading stocks of the well known company, as you would do in your brokerage account and have them processed by the traditional stock market infrastructure, here you would trade so called "Nvidia tokens" on the platform OKXICE.
Rather than trading stocks and buying and selling in dollars, investors on OKXICE's proposed trading platform will buy and sell stocks using "digital dollars" (stablecoins). OKXICE plans to list several stablecoins, including USDC, USDT and USDG.
As opposed to the traditional method of matching orders with corresponding buy and sell orders on stock markets, in OKXICE platform's stock tokens and digital currency are stored in pools that can be traded against by investors. For example, when an investor buys an Nvidia token, he or she will take it out of the pool and buy it with digital currency. The same investor selling said token will add it back to the stock token pool and again exchange it for digital currency. This in turn will decrease the price of the token in question.
They can be simple rule-based market makers like Uniswap, or much more complex and allow for sophisticated trading programs to trade at the prices and sizes that the program wishes to trade at. The resulting environment is similar to that of an exchange.
