Doral, Florida - Florida is said to be a Free State and a Red State, and Governor DeSantis was re-elected last year by a 19-point margin, but the state legislature has: (1) a Republican super-majority; (2) a small conservative minority; and (3) RINO leadership in Tallahassee, which uses funds from large donors to interfere in primaries and select the legislators. See: https://miamiindependent.com/tammany-hall-in-tallahassee/. In fact, the 2023 Legislative Scorecard prepared by the Republican Liberty Caucus, a grassroots conservative group within the Republican party, shows that the overwhelming majority of Florida Republican legislators, especially the leadership, are hardly conservative at all. See: https://rlcfl.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2023-RLCFL-Scorecard-FINAL-v3-2023-0522.pdf. The Florida legislature does not have a state chapter of the Congressional Freedom Caucus, and if one were formed, there are only around three out of 160 legislators that might qualify.
An especially egregious example of this lack of conservative principles among Republican state legislators was S.B.7050, enacted during the spring of this year. This statute allegedly advanced election integrity, but in fact represented one step forward and two steps back. See: https://miamiindependent.com/defend-florida-for-transparency-eligibility-and-control-in-elections/. The main players in this legislative process were: (1) the Florida Association of Supervisors of Elections—FSE, a public-sector cartel with no constituency other than its own unionized government bureaucrats; (2) the legislative leadership, especially on the Senate side; and (3) the Secretary of State appointed by Governor DeSantis. Those players paid scant attention to the priorities of grassroots conservative groups.

Performance Appraisal
Accordingly, on Saturday, October 28 @ 12 noon in the Pine Lake Golf Club, Palm Coast, near St. Augustine on the Atlantic Coast, a group of grassroots conservatives, organized as Citizen Coalition of Florida Senate District 7, [email protected], will hold a town hall meeting. At this meeting, they will appraise the legislative performance of Thomas Leek. Mr. Leek is a local Republican State Representative who will reach his term limits next year, and who has launched a campaign for the State Senate in District 7. See: https://miamiindependent.com/accountability-redefined/.
This Citizen Coalition is a grassroots organization dedicated to informing constituents about the job performance of their elected officials. These appraisals cover their voting records, their financial interests, including any conflicts, and their legislative agenda. Citizen engagement is essential to preserve our individual liberty. Therefore, all citizens are invited to attend and participate in this town hall meeting.
Some say that politics should be run more like a business, and in business regular performance appraisals are common. This appraisal will measure: (1) product quality (bills and enacted legislation); (2) customer retention (constituent satisfaction); and (3) profitability (economic impact). Our public servants must be held accountable by ordinary citizens.
The review of Representative Leek’s record is being made in three parts, and he has been invited to this meeting in order to defend his record: (1) Leek’s Insurance Laws, especially standing by while homeowner’s insurance premiums rose by 20 to 40 percent. (2) Clouds Obscure Sunshine, especially legislation with respect to providing protection from litigation to medical providers who refuse to administer promising treatments requested by patients, and allowing distributors to increase electric power rates. And (3) Mickey Mouse Funny Money.
Representative Leek is connected with a Political Action Committee, named “Living Life with Purpose,” but his purpose when voting in the legislature appears to be serving his donors at the expense of ordinary citizens: (1) insurance carriers over policy holders; (2) medical bureaucracies over individual patients; and (3) electric power distributors over rate payers.
Politics is too important to be left to the politicians. If good people don’t get involved in politics then we will be governed by other people.
