Doral, Florida – Tony Diaz is a small-business owner, husband, and father who lives in a modest single-family home near the Shenandoah neighborhood in Miami. This year, he is running in the Republican primary for Florida House District 113, which covers Brickell, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, Little Havana, and Shenandoah.
His campaign slogan is: “Florida is not for sale!” He pledges to represent the public interest of ordinary citizens rather than the special interests of donors, lobbyists, and establishment politicians—a display of civic virtue rarely seen in today’s politics.
You can confirm Tony’s commitment to ordinary citizens over special interests by the fact that several members of the local Republican establishment—including the Supervisor of Elections—have privately urged him to drop out of the race. They have told him that the seat “belongs” to the successor handpicked by its former holder, Representative Vicki Lopez, who vacated the position earlier this year after being appointed to fill a vacancy on the Miami-Dade County Commission.
Despite this pressure, Tony has stood firm and continued his campaign. He stands out alongside a few other local figures, such as Hialeah Mayor Bryan Calvo, who have maintained their grassroots independence from the Republican establishment.
Tony’s independence stems in part from his self-made career. He founded and operates Giardino Fresco, a local online nursery and farm specializing in plants such as mango and avocado trees (your correspondent even inquired about mamey). He has also built and run print shops and ad agencies. Tony does not depend on politics for his livelihood or career advancement.
Tony’s main issues include:
Making homeownership affordable again.
Challenging insurance practices, pushing back against rising premiums, and demanding genuine coverage.
Public safety and law & order.
Election security.
Tony and his team plan to march in the Independence Day parade in Key Biscayne. For more information or to get involved, visit his campaign website: www.votetonyjdiaz.com.
